IPTL: Indian Aces 2 Wins Thanks to Mirza-Bopanna Doubles


In the clash between two star pairs, Indian Aces’s Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna mangled the top singles players, Maria Sharapova and Andy Murray savagely in Saturday’s game in International Premier Tennis League held in Manila, Philippines . It is not always the case that the two great singles players would make a good doubles team and today was a proof as experient Indian Aces duo Mirza and Bopanna defeated Sharapova and Murray, members of star-studded team, Manila Mavericks, 6-1 to have Aces an 18-12 lead.

Ana Ivanovic of Indian Aces then continued savaging Mavericks by slamming down Sharapova in singles, 6-3. Having lost in mixed doubles match with huge margin, Sharapova totally messed up in the singles in the fifth and final individual set.

IPTL: Sania Mirza Gives First Victory to Indian Aces

The much-awaited inaugural International Premier Tennies League (IPTL) got off to a flying start with the Indian Aces notching an impressive 26-16 first win against the Singapore Slammers at the Mall of Asia Arena, Manila on Friday.

Mixed doubles: Rohan Bopanna/Sania Mirza (Aces) beat Bruno Soares/Daniela Hantuchova (Slammers) 6-4

Past Champions’ Singles: Fabrice Santoro (Aces) beat Patrick Rafter (Slammers) 6-5

Men’s doubles: Rohan Bopanna/Gael Monfils (Aces) lost to Tomas Berdych/Nich Kyrgios (Slammers) 2-6

Women’s Singles: Ana Ivanovic (Aces) beat Daniela Hantuchova (Slammers) 6-0

Men’s singles: Gael Monfils (Aces) beat Lleyton Hewitt (Slammers) 6-1

Tennis Ace Rafael Nadal to Open Academy in his Hometown


The 14-time Grand Slam winner, Rafael Nadal will open a tennis academy on his hometown Mallorca in 2016. He says the plan is to begin with a summer camp in 2016. The academy will include a school where promising tennis talents can continue their regular studies. Nadal says that this is special for him and that this project that they had been working on for many years was finally a reality. Nadal is set to return to competition in January after he’ll recover from the removal of his appendix earlier this month.
