Messi, Argentina, Venezuela Football Teams in Kolkata

Lionel Messi

As if international football teams Argentina and Venezuela are not enough, football star Lionel Messi will play in Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata with his Argentina team in a friendly game against Venezuela.

Kolkata is up for a treat and for a state known for its love of football (remember the visit of football legend Diego Maradona?), nothing will beat a game with its dazzling star players in 120,000-capacity crowd on September 2. And even it is only a friendly game, we all know that Argentina can’t just play lightly specially with their new manager, Alejandro Sabella.

So, make sure you got your ticket in this rare football event plus Messi, only in Kolkata.

Usain Bolt Disqualified in 100m

usain bolt disqualified

Usain Bolt, the fastest man on Earth, has been disqualified in 100m-run where he previously dominated, due to a false start, in the ongoing World Championships in South Korea last Sunday.

After Bolt’s disqualification, there was a minor disagreement, so a new false start rule may be on the books. This could lead to changes in track’s awful false start rule. The “one and done” rule has been on the books since 2010 and has led to a number of high-profile athletes getting kicked out of races before they begin.

Japan Beat US, Won the World Cup

Japan v USA: FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 Final

The U.S. women’s football team fell short on the penalty kicks that led them to the defeat against the Japan’s team and the Cup in the finals held in Germany yesterday, July 17.

U.S. finished second after Japan keeper Ayumi Kaihori came up with a kick save on Shannon Boxx’s opening shot, then Carli Lloyd blasted her shot over the crossbar and Kaihori again saved Tobin Heath’s attempt after that. Japan won the shootout 3-1 and brings home the Cup to their disaster-stricken land and people.

Japan’s win will be much appreciated by Japanese people as the team played with them in their hearts and minds. Congratulations, Japan. Hope this World Cup brought you smile :)

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 final brings U.S. Women’s National Team to play against Japan team on Sunday at 2:45 p.m., ET. While the Japanese team will play to boost the Japanese people who are affected by the calamity, the Americans’ motivation is to win the World Cup for the first time since 1999.

Though Women’s World Cup is still far from men’s division popularity, it is reported that the number of TV viewers has increased 200 percent compared World Cup 2007 held in China. Will the FIFA Women’s World Cup match between US and Japan be an exciting game? Who’s your bet now?
