RCB beats DD by 21 runs

image

Royal Challengers Bangalore wins today’s match against Delhi Daredevils by 21 runs with a total score of 215 – 194 held in Delhi. Thanks to the 13 sixes from Chris Gayle who scored 128 from 62 balls, RCB has now moved up its position in standings from 6th to 5th.

Virendra Sehwag was absent in the game so I’m wondering if the DD could have caught up with RCB’s score and won the game, but there’s no doubt that Gayle is the man of the match.

Catching Up with IPL 2012

ipl5-teams

It’s been awhile since I update my sports blog. I’ve been busy for some time and also did not have so much interest in sports for the past few months. I missed blogging the opening of IPL 2012 though I watched part of the opening program on TV. It was so much different from the previous IPL opening show, but of course they brought someone who can spice up the IPL 5 opening, it was Katy Perry who sang some of her hit songs though only one song performance was shown on TV.

I was surprised for Sourav Ganguly as a captain of Pune Warriors, but it was the only logical thing to do for Pune since Yuvraj Singh is still recuperating, but what’s more surprising is the loss of leadership trust of Pune management to Sourav when he was replaced by Graeme Smith on the captaincy for one match only to be returned the captain-ship to Dada again after the Warriors still lost on the match. The Warriors was doing well in the beginning of the season but suddenly lost a series of matches that led them to the bottom of the team standings just one place above the last placer, Deccan Chargers. Now Pune Warriors is out of the game just as the Deccan Chargers.

Kolkata Knight Riders is doing well this season, winning most of their matches and placing second in the standings just one place below to Delhi Daredevils. Last season’s champion, Chennai Super Kings is actually lagging behind but all is not lost for the defending champion as they placed 4th currently, just below Mumbai Indians. Royal Challengers Bangalore which was one of the top placers in the early part of the season has lost its winning touch, and may just suffer the fate similar to Kingfisher Airline. It seems that Chris Gayle’s sixes are not enough to bring the RCB on top 4.

Of course, IPL will not be an IPL if there are no sizzling issues of brawls, scams, and suspensions. IPL is hitting not only sports section but entertainment and front page. The front runner is Shah Rukh Khan’s incidents. Although his KKR is doing well, it seems that SRK cannot seem to hide from the spotlight. SRK was caught on camera smoking in the stadium which made an aadmi file a case against him, but of course, he will only be slapped with a 500rupees fine. The recent one is  in the latest KKR-MI match where SRK misbehaved at the stadium security. It’s reported that SRK will be banned from Mumbai Cricket Association due to scuffle. Another nonmatch-related IPL headline is the suspension of 5 IPL players for graft and spot-fixing. The players that are suspended by the BCCI are Shalabh Srivastava, TP Sudhindra, Amit Yadav, Mohnish Mishra, and Abhinav Bali.

IPL is always colorful. Aside from the exciting matches and beautiful cheerleaders, these kinds of stories make the IPL more alive and interesting. Don’t you agree? Well, IPL 2012 season is not yet over, so there’s more to come. Watch for it! :)

Messi, Argentina, Venezuela Football Teams in Kolkata

Lionel Messi

As if international football teams Argentina and Venezuela are not enough, football star Lionel Messi will play in Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata with his Argentina team in a friendly game against Venezuela.

Kolkata is up for a treat and for a state known for its love of football (remember the visit of football legend Diego Maradona?), nothing will beat a game with its dazzling star players in 120,000-capacity crowd on September 2. And even it is only a friendly game, we all know that Argentina can’t just play lightly specially with their new manager, Alejandro Sabella.

So, make sure you got your ticket in this rare football event plus Messi, only in Kolkata.

Usain Bolt Disqualified in 100m

usain bolt disqualified

Usain Bolt, the fastest man on Earth, has been disqualified in 100m-run where he previously dominated, due to a false start, in the ongoing World Championships in South Korea last Sunday.

After Bolt’s disqualification, there was a minor disagreement, so a new false start rule may be on the books. This could lead to changes in track’s awful false start rule. The “one and done” rule has been on the books since 2010 and has led to a number of high-profile athletes getting kicked out of races before they begin.

Japan Beat US, Won the World Cup

Japan v USA: FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 Final

The U.S. women’s football team fell short on the penalty kicks that led them to the defeat against the Japan’s team and the Cup in the finals held in Germany yesterday, July 17.

U.S. finished second after Japan keeper Ayumi Kaihori came up with a kick save on Shannon Boxx’s opening shot, then Carli Lloyd blasted her shot over the crossbar and Kaihori again saved Tobin Heath’s attempt after that. Japan won the shootout 3-1 and brings home the Cup to their disaster-stricken land and people.

Japan’s win will be much appreciated by Japanese people as the team played with them in their hearts and minds. Congratulations, Japan. Hope this World Cup brought you smile :)

World Cup 2011: Japan vs US

U.S. Team vs. Japan Team on World Cup 2011 Finals

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 final brings U.S. Women’s National Team to play against Japan team on Sunday at 2:45 p.m., ET. Japan Women’s Team is seen as an underdog since they have not won a single match against U.S. will use the raw emotion over the natural disaster, an earthquake and a tsunami, that killed more than 15,000 people several months ago. While the Japanese team will play to boost the Japanese people who are affected by the calamity, the Americans’ motivation is to win the World Cup for the first time since 1999.

Though Women’s World Cup is still far from men’s division popularity, it is reported that the number of TV viewers has increased 200 percent compared World Cup 2007 held in China. Will the FIFA Women’s World Cup match between US and Japan be an exciting game? Who’s your bet now?
